Dear Parent/Guardian:
There are several things that are important to pass on to you so let me get right to them:
Daylight Saving Time: Don’t forget to set your clocks one hour ahead on Saturday!!
Black History Month Potluck Supper: Our annual Potluck supper held last Thursday evening was a great success! It was a wonderful time of celebrating each other as well as a chance to build community. Thank you to all who attended and for all the work the Home and School Association, teachers and students did to make it a huge success.
Terra Nova testing for grades K-8 will began on Friday, March 1st and continues on through this week and ends on Friday, March 8th. It is very important that the students are present in school each day, arrive on time, get enough rest and come prepared to school to do their best. Please make all appointments for the children outside of the school day during this week. It is very difficult for the students to make these tests up and the results from the tests help the teachers and administration to plan for instruction according to your child’s strengths and weaknesses. Your help in this will be greatly appreciated.
Report Card Conferences: I sent a letter home last week for you to sign up for a report card conference for the second trimester if you wish. If you did not meet with your child’s teacher for the first trimester report card, you must meet with your child’s teacher for the second trimester report card. Please send the report card conference forms back as soon as possible.
Second Trimester: The second trimester will officially end on March 8, 2013. This is also the time of the year when teachers will begin meeting with parents to discuss retention or summer school requirements. If you know your child is in danger of not passing, please work closely with them to ensure that homework is being completed. Grade 8 students who fail more than two subjects in any two trimesters will not graduate. Those classes can not be made up in summer school.
Registration: The formal registration process for the 2013 – 2014 school year has begun. Students wishing to register for kindergarten must be age five by September 1, 2013. Returning parents should check their email for registration information from TADS. The registration fee is $300 for all students in grades Pre K – 8. Financial Aid document must be completed by ALL parents. If you are having trouble completing the financial aid form please contact TADS at 800.477.8237. Remember were are opening a Pre-K 3yr old and 4yr old program beginning September 2013. We have window and lawn signs if you would like to advertise our school or know a business owner will to put our sign in their window. Please notify Ms. Spellman for more information.
Smile Dental Program: I am sending home an application for your child to receive dental services at school on April 12th if you wish. Please fill out the application and return it to school as soon as possible.
Please don’t forget to spread the good news about our school to your co-workers, families and friends!
Sincerely,
Sister Cheryl Ann Hillig, DC
Principal
